The workshop explores the influence of music on social justice throughout the 20th & 21st century. Veteran song writers Bev Grant and Charlie King have both been writing and recording songs for over 40 years. They have been at the heart of the struggle, using the power of song to influence and support working people and social justice movements. They are wonderfully warm people with lots of interesting stories to share of how music has helped shape the history of our nation. This workshop will take as a starting point two songs that exemplify the craft, with commentary into the process of writing them and the reasons why they work. As time allows, workshop attendees will be able to present a song for critical feedback and editing.
